Year 5 Art Landscape Collages
This half term in year 5 the children have been looking at landscapes and using different techniques for sketching. Developing the sketches of the Gorge, they created a collage landscape using a wooden palette as a canvas. The children had to think about textures, colours and perspective using upcycled and material from home.
Year 5 Trip to Duxford
On Wednesday 27th February, Year 5 children enjoyed a fantastic trip to Duxford. In the morning, they had the opportunity to talk to war veterans and eyewitnesses to find out about real stories of conflict and personal stories. The afternoon was spent exploring the hangars and buildings, which those who served at RAF Duxford would have walked through. They witnessed aircraft take to the skies and got up close to over a century of aviation history, as they examined the aircraft and objects on display. Children experienced the size and scale of amazing military vehicles, wandered through themed landscapes and explored how Britain’s air defences developed from the First World War through to the Cold War. They also discovered how the RAF defended its skies during key battles in the Second World War. The children asked thoughtful questions and were complimented on their exemplary behaviour. A very enjoyable day was had by all and the children were a real credit to Warren.
In Year 5, we have been studying Space and the Solar System through our 'Cosmic' topic. The children studied colour, texture and graffiti in Art and, after creating their own graffiti, they used the skills to create stencilled bold pieces of planet Art using sponges and Cosmic-coloured paints. Working in pairs, the children produced amazing pieces of art work showing various planets in the Solar System.
To follow on from that, the children created a working Space buggy in DT which included an electrical circuit and pulley system. Through careful design and testing, the children raced their finished products and assessed them for speed, reliability and functionality. The children worked diligently to produce a finished product which was amazing and the children brought away a variety of skills including how to saw, make circuits and switches and how to build aerodynamic bodywork as a finishing touch.
This year, the school is taking part in Sign2Sing where the children will sign a song as a whole school in assembly. We will do this on 28th February. Below are the clips that we will be using in class to prepare but if your child would like to, they can also practice at home!
NSPCC Feedback survey
Year 5 have taken part in a ‘Speak Out. Stay Safe’ workshop presented by the NSPCC where the children learnt about how to stay safe. They discussed their safe places and people who they can trust.
As a result of this visit, the NSPCC would like the children to complete a short feedback survey if possible.
If your child would like to complete this survey, please follow the link below:
