Once children reach Year 5/6, they have the opportunity to become a Sports Leader. Children must complete an application form and then attend weekly training sessions ran by Mrs. Girt.
The initiative is designed to:
. To understand what makes a good role model
. To plan and deliver sporting activities to younger children
. To gain a First Aid certificate level 1
. To run reception and KS1 Sports Day
. To understand what good housekeeping means – reporting any equipment damages, keeping the PE shed tidy
. Develop skills in responsibility and leadership
The children are asked to interact with younger children this could be of a lunchtime or break time. On occasions they might be asked to help out at a competition for younger children.
Weekly meetings also take place; this is the time to share ideas mainly how to improve PE within in our school or to raise any concerns that they might have.
Sports Leader Bronze Award
As a Sport Leader, children are set tasks to do which involve designing challenges, creating opportunities for younger children to become healthier and happier, running sporting events, creating games at lunch and break times and challenging family members outside of school. There are 6 elements to pass and the children have to create a folder of work as their evidence. Work is then sent off ready to be judged by an outside provider, Thurrock SSP and successful candidates are given a t-shirt and a certificate to keep.
Well done to our newest member of the qualifying team!
Congratulations to Sam Bush for being the first child in Thurrock to complete his Bronze Sport Leader Award.
Well done, Sam, you have worked tirelessly for this award. This is an amazing achievement.
Everyone at Warren is so proud of you!
