Reception trip to Boydell’s Farm

On Monday 20th May, Reception children enjoyed a trip to Boydells farm in Braintree. We travelled by double-decker bus, which was an exciting experience. At the farm, we had the opportunity to experience life on a working farm. Children were able to milk a cow, bottle feed a lamb, hold a variety of animals including chicks, rabbits, kids and lambs. We also fed the goats, sheep, llamas and chickens. The children were very well behaved and a great time was had by all!

Chicks in Reception

Reception children have been lucky to witness what happens to an incubated egg. After three weeks the eggs hatched and we had 4 baby chicks to look after. The Reception children have learnt so much from having the chicks and found it an educational experience. They have learnt about the life cycle of a hen and they have also produced some wonderful imaginative story writing based on finding an unusual egg. The chicks have now been returned to their home in South Ockendon Academy so they can grow in a more natural environment; their chirping will be missed by all in Reception.

Happy New Year!

In Reception we celebrated Chinese New Year by creating a dragon mask and used blankets to dress as the dragon. We paraded around the school and in PE with musical instruments and streamers!
