Nursery

The Nursery children have been sharing the book 'The Very Hungry Caterpillar'.  We have really enjoyed this book and have learnt all about the life cycle of a butterfly.  This week we have been talking about the food that the Hungry Caterpillar ate and we put some fruits in order of weight.  To check whether we were correct we weighed the fruit using the balancing scales.

To make sure that we made the most of lovely fresh fruit we did some observational painting before slicing it up and eating it.

The Nursery Children have been sharing the book 'The Very Hungry Caterpillar'.  To support our topic we went to Barleylands Farm to take part in the Hungry Caterpillar experience.  Lizzie read us the story in the classroom and then we were able to retell the story as we looked for props in the aviary.  We had an amazing day feeding the animals, checking out the fruits and vegetables growing in the polytunnel and preparing our own rainbow salad.  We had beautiful weather in the morning and we were able to eat our lunch outside.  Sadly, it poured in the afternoon and we all got very wet but this made the trailer tractor ride one to remember as the covering tarpaulin emptied over all of the passengers.  Lots of us screamed!

This week the nursery children have enjoyed sharing the book 'Jaspers Beanstalk'.  To support our learning we have been planting runner beans in the classroom and some gorgeous bedding plants in the garden.

The nursery children have been extremely busy transporting topsoil to use in the Forest School mud kitchen.

The Nursery children have been developing their gross motor control when playing outside in the garden.  They can move in a range of ways and have been perfecting their balancing skills.

The Nursery children have engaged in a fantastic scientific activity to excavate the dinosaurs from the ice.  They used syringes of warm water to melt the ice and were keen to find out how long it would take to set them free.

The Nursery children have been learning lots of skills including how to use scissors.

The Nursery children have enjoyed sharing the story of The Three Little Pigs. Here are some examples of our brilliant paintings of our favourite character.

The Nursery children have been very busy in the run up to Christmas taking part in many festive activities.  Here they are matching numerals to quantities by counting the number of baubles on the trees before finding the corresponding numbered tree trunk.

Kandinsky Artwork

We have been learning about the artist Kandinsky.

Children explored a variety of different sized circles to create their own Kandinsky inspired trees.
